Wii U Virtual Console is coming, promises GamePad play

Nintendo has said that development of the Wii U version of the Virtual Console is ongoing – and furthermore, it promises GamePad compatibility.

Wii U’s current Virtual Console functionality is limited. Owners cannot purchase content from the eShop but are able to transfer games they previously downloaded on their Wii over to the machine.

However, one crucial bit of functionality is absent – Wii U owners cannot play Virtual Console titles on their GamePad’s screen. Fortunately it looks as if this is about to change.

We are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone,” a Nintendo America rep told Kotaku.

Wii U owners will also be hoping that Nintendo soon ramps up its other digital offerings, too. The eShop has not had any titles added to it since the machine’s launch in November.
