World of Warcraft charity pet raises $1.9m+ to fight Ebola

Players of Blizzard’s MMO mega-hit World of Warcraft have between them once again raised over $1.9m for charity.

The studio in December donated all money raised from the sale of the in-game Argi pet to the American Red Cross to support the ongoing efforts to treat those affected by the Ebola virus in Africa and help curb its spread across the continent.

Players could ‘adopt’ the pet for $10.

A Blizzard statement thanked players for their overwhelming generosity”, adding: The community embraced this cute little intergalactic nibbler, helping out a great cause in the process. Thanks again to everyone who helped make a difference.”

In 2011 a World of Warcraft charity drive have raised over $1.9m to help the Japanese tsunami aid efforts.
