It looks like the Xbox 360 indie games programme won’t shut down today after all.
The Xbox Live Indie Games store will remain online until October 7th, Eurogamer reports. ID@Xbox previously announced that the store would close today (September 29th) but it looks like it’s now been delayed. Eurogamer points out that some games are likely to remain available a few days after the store closes.
MCV has reached to Microsoft UK for comments but a spokesperson said they hadn’t received any information on this yet.”
Microsoft announced it would be shutting down the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Indie Games service as far back as September 2015. The date was then confirmed mid-September this year.
There will still be a place for indie creators on Xbox though, with Microsoft’s new Xbox Live Creators Program having launched this summer. "The Creators Program was established to enable developers to directly publish their games – any of their games – to Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, with a simplified certification process and no concept approval required,” Chris Charla, director of ID@Xbox, explained back then.
He added: "Developers that publish through the Creators Program have the freedom and independence to develop games that are truly unique, resulting in a collection with games that can be quirky and have varying degrees of polish, but are always interesting."
