Zumba Fitness passes 2m worldwide sales

Wii, PS3 and 360 title Zumba Fitness has now sold over 2m around the world.

As well as being a consistent top five hit in the UK, the title has also been been the No.2 selling Wii game since its launch in the US. It has now surpassed sales of Dance Central in North America.

The sales figure came as part of Majesco’s Q2 financial report, which revealed revenue for the quarter has shot up 195 per cent to $32.1 million compared with the same period a year before. The publisher has now revised its projected revenue for the full year to be between $110 to $120 million, up from the previous projections of $100 to $110m.

Majesco now has $18.5 million in cash and cash equivalents, compared with just $8m on October 31st, 2010.

Zumba Fitness 2 will launch on Wii this November, and will be released on another platform early next year, although Majesco has not announced which device that will be for.

The announcement comes after Majesco’s acquisition of Quick Hit last week. The developer is a specialist in free-to-play online games.

"We experienced another strong quarter, driven by the phenomenal success of Zumba Fitness," said Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton.

"Zumba Fitness continues to sell well, nearly seven months after its launch, and is also off to a great start in Europe. The franchise has now sold over 2 million units worldwide, and is a clear leader in the dance-fitness category.

"Beyond Zumba Fitness, we are happy to have announced the majority of our release slate for the upcoming holiday season, and believe it may be our strongest lineup yet.

"Additionally, we took many steps to expand our social games business and execute on our digital strategy. We are very excited about adding the talented development team from Quick Hit, led by Jeff Anderson, which should really accelerate our push into online, free-to-play games”.

Zumba Fitness was released in the UK earlier this year by 505 Games.
