Amazon Fire Phone dated for the UK

Amazon’s Fire Phone will be released in the UK before the end of the month.

The device will launch on September 30th and will, as reported yesterday, be an O2 exclusive.

O2 won’t, however, be offering the handset contract-free, meaning that buyers will have to sign up to a 33 per month two-year contract, although that does at least mean that there will be no upfront cost for the phone.

For the price buyers will get 2GB of data and unlimited calls and texts each month, as well as a year’s membership to Amazon Prime.

Amazon is expected to release the handset contract and SIM free in time, although details of that are yet to be unveiled.

We’ve packed a lot of value into our first smartphone and we are delighted to bring Fire to customers in the United Kingdom,” Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said.

O2’s marketing and consumer director Nina Bibby added: We’re proud to be partnering with Amazon to bring Fire to the UK. Both O2 and Amazon share a passion for putting customers at the heart of everything we do, whilst driving innovation to deliver outstanding experiences.

That is why, through this partnership, we’re so excited that O2 customers will be the first in the UK to get their hands on Fire. It has always been our ambition to offer the very latest devices and to unlock the possibilities offered by innovative technology, and this is further proof of that commitment.”
