April charts: God of War takes No.1, Nintendo Labo has slow start

Unsurprisingly, God of War debuted at the top of the monthly charts for April, to very strong sales considering it released late in the month, on April 20th. As a comparison, sales for Sony Santa Monica’s title nearly reached in eight days what Horizon Zero Dawn or Monster Hunter World sold in one month in the UK. Sony announced yesterday that God of War has sold over 3.1m units worldwide in three days.

As a result, Sony was back at the top of the publishers charts for April, taking 22.2 per cent of the market in units and 27.5 per cent in value.

Far Cry 5 had to settle for No.2 (after debuting at the top spot in March), with sales only down 36 per cent month-on-month. As a result, Ubisoft also lost one spot to No.2 in the publisher charts. Meanwhile, Sea of Thieves lost two spots to No.6, with sales declining 54 per cent.

In terms of new entries, Sega’s Yakuza 6: The Song of Life debuted at No.24, with Month One sales up 35 per cent compared to last year’s Yakuza 0.

The Nintendo Labo Variety Kit entered the charts at No.26, while the Robot Kit didn’t make it to the Top 50 for its first month on shelves. But admittedly Labo offers such a different proposition that it makes it difficult to judge its sales figures. Hopefully, Nintendo will be rewarded for its innovation in the long run, as Labo should perform well in the summer and next Christmas.

Weirdly enough, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition also debuted in the charts in April, at No.45, having released in December last year.
