Episodic spin-off picks optimisation tool for speedy development

Capcom uses Simplygon for Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Simplygon has revealed that its 3D optimisation tool has been used in Capcom’s Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

The episodic spin-off series uses Simplygon to optimise 3D models and devleop art quickly in order to keep up with the schedule for regular new content. It also helps ensure that the level of detail is as high as possible on each of the game’s platforms – in this case, Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and PC.

“From this project, more than anything, I felt that Simplygon would be a tool that is going to be vital for game dev moving forward,” said Capcom producer Michiteru Okabe. “Obviously it helps that it has been so easy to use, but for me the real merit has been being able to take the data we’ve obtained in our 3D Photo Scan Studio and integrate that into the game so quickly with Simplygon. The time and cost reduction has been incredible.”

Earlier this month, Simplygon announced its tool was also being used in Telltale’s Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands series.
