Microsoft brings on board former lead game designer to aid TV push

Elan Lee joins Xbox Entertainment Studios

Microsoft has hired Elan Lee as the chief designer officer at interactive content firm Xbox Entertainment Studios.

Lee, who has previously worked at the computing giant as lead game designer for Microsoft Game Studios, will report to studio head Nancy Tellem.

As well a working at Microsoft, Lee has also held stints at 42 Entertainment as VP of experience designer, interaction director at Edoc Laundry and as founder and chief designer of Fourth Wall Studios.

Xbox Entertainment Studios opened in February earlier this year in Los Angeles. The company will be responsible for creating original content for Xbox and other platforms, and will also oversee live interactive events.

The studio’s core focus will be on helping Microsoft transform the Xbox into an entertainment hub, rather than just a games-focused platform.

“In addition to Xbox Entertainment Studios creating content that will highlight what’s possible and demonstrate the capability of the Xbox platform, Microsoft will continue to partner with content creators, networks, aggregators and advertisers to pioneer the future of TV,” said Microsoft president of entertainment and digital media Nancy Tellem at the time.
