MCV AWARDS 2014: Argos beats Amazon to Mainstream Retailer award

Argos took home the Mainstream Retailer prize from last night’s MCV Awards.

In 2013 the catalogue retailer shot to the forefront of games retail with its flexible buying options, and also fulfilled what would have been otherwise lost PS4 and Xbox One pre-orders made at doomed rival Blockbuster. It also produced the new Game Flyer magazine.

The firm is the biggest High Street games retailer, with 737 stores across the country.

It beat last year’s winner Amazon – showing that brick and mortar retail can still thrive in a digital era – as well as a number of supermarkets.

Argos was one of 15 winners at the MCV Awards last night.
