E3'09 Fresh PSP-only iteration will accompany October launch of PSP Go!; 800 cars featured

Polyphony Digital exposes Gran Turismo on PSP

Sony has announced that the long-delayed Gran Turismo PSP is alive and will arrive on October 1st – the same date that its new hardware PSP Go! is launched.

The new Gran Turismo will feature 800 cars, 35 tracks and 65 ‘layout variations’ of courses.

The boss of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi, premiered the title to the crowd at Sony’s E3 conference – and said that the title ran at 60 frames per second.

"It’s a full-scale Gran Turismo experience," he said. "You can race together with up to four players in ad-hoc mode. It’s fairly difficult to gather all 800 cars yourself – so you can get together with friends to make it much easier. To have people meet with others in ad-hoc mode is an important part of the game."

The single-player mode features standard racing, time trials and drift trials, as well as a legacy licence mode.

In multiplayer mode, players will be able to trade user content, added Yamauchi.
