Veteran game devs launch Kickstarter for new point-and-click adventure Thimbleweed Park

Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick reunite for Maniac Mansion successor

The creators of classic title Maniac Mansion have teamed up once more to create a brand new point-and-click adventure game.

Thimbleweed Park is a new title from Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, and is billed by the duo as "the true spiritual successor to Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island". The pair have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the game.

Telling the story of two detectives that discover a corpse in a river, Thimbleweed Park will boast both the devious puzzles of Gilbert’s early adventure games and the same retro graphics, styled in the same way as 1987’s Maniac Mansion.

"It will be like finding an old adventure game you’ve never played before," a pixelated Gilbert says in the appeal’s video, which you can see below.

Gilbert and Winnick are seeking $375,000 to develop the game. After less than two days, the Kickstarter campaign has already raised more than $200,000 from more than 5,500 backers.
