Yokai Watch 2 and Pokémon continue to top Japanese charts

Yokai Watch 2: Shinuchiand Pocket Monster Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire continue to be the best-sellers in Japan, according to data from Famitsu.

The former shifted over 49,000 units, a decline of 34 per cent week-on-week, while combined sales of the latter dipped by 38 per cent.

In total, all three version of Yokai Watch 2 shifted 57,923 units this week.

There are two new entries in the software charts. The first – Spike Chunsoft’s Kenka Banco: Soul and Blood – reaches third place, shifting only 22,337 units, while the second, Idea Factory’s Diabolik Lovers: More Blood, sold 6,627 units.

Given that the entire Top Five this week are 3DS games, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Nintendo’s handheld continues to dominate the hardware charts, too. The New 3DS LL is still the best-selling hardware in Japan, in spite of a sales dip of 19 per cent this week.

Meanwhile, Nintendo’s original 3DS is outselling the original 3DS LL. Traditionally the LL was shifting more units than the 3DS, but since December the latter has been performing better. This week the smaller machine outsold the LL by 1,632 units.

Last week’s re-entries, Grand Theft Auto V and Animal Crossing: New Leaf – have both dropped out of the chart.
