Firm looking to fund, co-develop and publish promising titles

Nexon re-opens $1m indie dev contest

South Korean publisher Nexon is launching another $1 million indie development funding initiative.

Developers have the chance to pitch their game ideas to the company, and if successful will get a slice of the dev fund as well as a publishing opportunity.

A previous $1 million funding contest took place in March last year, which won Canadian group Antic Entertainment and Polish studio one2tribe funding.

It is unknown how much the two studios each received, and if the $1 million prize pool has been carried over from last year.

Both Antic and one2tribe are currently creating online game projects that will be co-developed and published through Nexon’s global distribution network, which currently services 30 games in more than 71 countries.

Submission deadlines for this next round ends April 30th.

Nexon did not clarify whether developers will retain their own IP if selected.

Nexon said it is looking particularly for titles which show “wide-ranging audience appeal and which encourage community and social interaction”.

Flash, client-based games or ports from other platforms are all welcome submissions, Nexon said.

“Games with strong online and multi platform elements will get serious consideration, as will game concepts that align with Nexon’s goals,” it added.

Won Il Sue, Nexon America’s vice president of business development, said the company will be more competitive in the social gaming space as part of this deal.
