Alex Holowka, co-creator of indie game Night in the Woods, has died.
The news comes just days after a number of developers disclosed allegations of sexual assault about Holowka on social media.
In a statement on Twitter that has since been deleted, Holowka’s family confirmed Holowka died over the weekend and urged people not to harass anyone connected to the allegations as Alec had “specifically said he wished the best” to those who’d come forward.
Night in the Woods developer Infinite Fall formally “cut ties” with the composer and designer following a series of startling tweets in which game developer Zoe Quinn accused Holowka of false imprisonment and sexual abuse in Winnipeg, Canada. Others then came forward with their own stories.
Since the news of Holowka’s death, Quinn, Holowka’s former colleagues at Infinite Fall, and Holowka’s sister have all deleted or protected their Twitter accounts in the wake of thousands of offensive messages blaming those who’d come forward about the abuse for Holowka’s death.
Journalists who have previously reported on the allegations about Holowka have also been targeted.
