Nintendo has entered a partnership with Singapore’s Media Development Authority, a governmental body, and the DigiPen Institute of Technology to help more local devs bring their games to market.
The joint venture is call DigiPen Game Studios and will see both Nintendo and DigiPen considering game proposals from Singaporean devs later this year, according to GamaSutra.
An initial batch of 10 projects will be selected this autumn, with plans to release the final products via Nintendo eShop on 3DS in late 2016. Selected studios will receive mentorship from DigiPen’s faculty and development teams.
The plan is to expand the program to the point where games will not only be released on other Nintendo devices, but rival platforms as well.
DigiPen exec Jason Chu said: “Now, through DGS, we will have a way to help our Singapore-based graduates, as well as other game developers, to produce high-quality products of their own making and have them be published and distributed on a major gaming platform.”
