Nintendo denies Wii U production halt

The Wii U lives on, Nintendo has claimed.

Earlier this week reports suggested that production of the struggling console would come to an end this Friday (November 4th).

However, Kotaku reports that Nintendo has told Japanese site IT Media that these claims are incorrect, insisting that: There is no change to our continuing [Wii U] production. [The report] was not true.

Even though the Nintendo Switch is slated to go on sale, [Wii U] production is scheduled to continue.”

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has had to deny reports about the Wii U’s demise.

Nikkei made similar claims in March of this year, claiming that accessories production had already stopped and that the console itself would be halted by the end of 2016. Again, Nintendo refuted the assertion to IT Media.

It’s hard to see what lays ahead for Wii U, however. With the console still sitting at a pretty high RRP and Switch due just months after Christmas, it’s hard to see who would buy the console this Christmas – unless it is significantly discounted, of course.
