Nintendo has sold around 2.5m Amiibos in the US alone

Worldwide sales numbers for Amiibo remain unknown, but in the US at least the figures have sold in the millions.

Polygon reports that it has sold nearly twice” as many $12.99 Amiibo figures in the US as it has copies of Super Smash Bros for Wii U in the country. With that game having sold 1.3m units, that puts US Amiibo sales at around 2.5m units.

Last month the company said Amiibo sales were about equal to those of Wii U Smash Bros, meaning that over 1m of the figures were sold over Christmas.

UK sales figures remain unknown, but prices for harder to finds figures have reached close to 100 in most instances. The Nintendo Store, meanwhile, has already sold out of its fresh allocation of previously all but gone trio Marth, Villager and Trainer, despite them only having gone on sale yesterday.

Nintendo Direct earlier this week revealed a new range of Super Mario themed Amiibos that will tie up with Mario Party 10, as well as some additional Amiibo functionality for title’s such as Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.
