Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling console in U.S history

Nintendo has announced that their Switch console, the portable/console hybrid that launched in March, is the fastest selling console ever in the United States, beating the sales of their Wii console, which exploded in popularity in the U.S upon launch.

This comes from Business Wire, who put the sales of the Nintendo Switch at 4.8 million units in just 10 months.

“The home console that players can take wherever they go launched March 3, 2017, and in 10 months has sold more than 4.8 million units in the United States, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures,” Nintendo say.

“That’s the highest total for the first 10 months of any home video game system in U.S. history, surpassing Nintendo’s own Wii system, which was the previous record holder with more than four million units sold during the same timeframe.”

2017 was a stellar year for Ninty, and the company released several smash hit games in addition to the Switch, dealing with detractors who suggested the Wii U meant that they might have lost their touch as a business. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey were both Switch exclusives, in addition to being some of the highest-rated games in history according to tracking sites like Metacritic.
