Nintendo to host Super Mario Maker ‘hackathon’ at Facebook HQ

The world’s biggest social network is to play host to the world’s most popular Italian plumber.

In celebration of the upcoming launch of Super Mario Maker, Nintendo is to take the DIY Mario title to Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, on July 28th and 29th.

The social network holds occasional ‘hackathons’, where employees are encouraged to get creative and make something outside of their usual job responsibilities.

Super Mario Maker will be the canvas for the next hackathon, with Facebook staff taking to the game to create their own levels.

The designers will then present their levels to a selection of judges from Facebook and Nintendo, with the winning level set to be made available for free for the wider public once Super Mario Maker launches on September 11th.

A video series about the event will be put up online not long after the hackathon closes, and Nintendo’s Twitter and Facebook pages will be covering the competition as it takes place.
