No more online multiplayer for Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros Brawl

Nintendo Wii and DS games go offline today

Nintendo Wii and DS games will be taken offline today after the console firm decided to end its Wi-Fi Connection service.

This means online play, matchmaking and leaderboards for games such as Mario Kart Wii, Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City and Super Smash Bros Brawl will no longer be accessible.

DS titles such as Pokemon Black and White, Pokemon Black and White 2, Diddy Kong Racing DS and Mario Kart DS will also go offline.

Unaffected services include Netflix, the DS and DSi browser, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay & Play.

News of the Wi-Fi Connection closure was first announced back in February. Wii U and 3DS services will be unaffected.

Since February, GameSpy also announced its intentions to end its online hosting services, knocking hundreds of games offline. EA has revealed more than 50 of its titles will go offline by the end of June as a result, but is looking for alternatives for some of its more popular titles.
