PlayStation’s No Man’s Sky rescued August and was by far the best-selling game of the month in the UK.
The GfK data, which only counts physical boxed sales, shows that No Man’s Sky beat its nearest rival by more than 100,000 units. The No.2 game of the month was F1 2016.
As a result of the overwhelming commercial success of Hello Games’ space exploration game, Sony was the most successful publisher in terms of games sold and revenue generated. Nintendo was at No.2, with sales of 3DS software continuing to perform strongly during the Summer.
Overall, August was marginally down by 1.2 per cent year-on-year, in terms of the number of games sold. Yet in terms of revenue, sales are up by almost 25 per cent.
