Nobuo Uematsu taking remainder of 2018 off owing to ill health

Famed composer of countless gaming classics Nobuo Uematsu has announced he is to take the remainder of 2018 – possibly more – off, owing to ill health.

The news came via a blog post by Uematsu, in which he explained his hectic work schedule has left the man physically and mentally fatigued, and unable to continue working for the time being.

“After giving serious consideration to all options,” Uematsu wrote, “I have decided to take an extended leave of absence and give my mind and body the time they need to properly mend. If I am to return, I want to do so in full health. Do not worry. Once I’ve made a full recovery, I’ll be back doing what I do best.

“My current plan is to rest for the remainder of the year, and while I cannot commit to a method or time frame for my return, I’m very hopeful.”

He went on to apologise for the ‘burden’ he feels he has placed on fans and clients for taking this decision, which is a bit much to be honest. Personal health and wellbeing is paramount, and it’s positive to see someone as renowned as Uematsu acknowledge they need to take time out for their own good.

Uematsu is a legend to Final Fantasy fans, with the accomplished musician having composed iconic tunes from the series and having his hand in the vast majority of main series games over the past 30-plus years.

Since leaving Square in 2004, Uematsu set up Dog Ear Records – the production company he has been working at since then. He’s never strayed too far from gaming – or Final Fantasy – and we join his fans in wishing a full and healthy recovery from his health issues.
