Two thirds not from social network giant

Non-Facebook social gaming ‘to hit $5.6 billion by 2014’

Non-Facebook social gaming is to grow from $3.2 billion to $5.6 billion by 2014, according to a new study from Superdata.

Including the social networking giant, that figure rises to $8.6 billion.

The research, commissioned by social distribution platform provider Viximo, states Facebook only represents a third of worldwide traffic for social networks.

The study suggests that whilst the social network giant are the market leaders in North America, markets including Brazil, Germany and Russia are experiencing rapid growth in non-Facebook social gaming traffic.

"The social web beyond Facebook is often overlooked when it comes to games and applications,” said Viximo CEO Dale Strang.

“As it turns out, social networks beyond Facebook represent a non-trivial – in fact, significant – and fertile ground for games and apps.

“What we uncovered with this study was just how quickly non-Facebook social gaming is exploding around the world, giving game-makers a terrific opportunity to reach new audiences and generate new revenue."

The research data came from a sample of 775,000 transactions from over 150,000 paying online customers.
