North and Singularity clash over player buyout clause

Danish esports organisations North and Singularity have got into a dust-up over the purchase of a player.

Singularity claim that North, the esports branch of soccer team F.C. Copenhagen, didn’t pay the buyout for player Nicklas Gade. Gade joined North’s academy on April 12th, and Singularity owner Atle Stehouwer claims that Gade has a contract with the organisation that lasts until July.

Stehouwer has made his allegations to Danish community site Dust2.dk. In the piece, he claims that Gade was told about his buyout clause and that he hasn’t heard any word from North for the past two weeks.

In a statement to Dust2.dk, he alleges: “This is about the principle that an agreement is an agreement and that, if the bigger teams treat the smaller ones like in this situation, they will have to account for their lack of willingness to dialogue.”

Asked to comment by dust2.dk, North’s chief gaming officer Jakob Toft-Andersen delivered the following: “I do not comment on staff and contractual matters and always comply with the applicable rules.”

This isn’t the first time this year that smaller teams in Denmark have taken offence at the recruitment practices of the larger teams, with a contract between Heroic and Tricked playing out earlier this year.

Denmark has one of the largest CS:GO scenes in the world with several of the major teams in the country well-known and respected on the world stage.
