Markus ‘notch’ Persson has cancelled an Oculus Rift version of Minecraft following Facebook’s acquisition of the VR firm.
Earlier today the social networking firm purchased Oculus for $2 billion. Founder Palmer Luckey has since said the deal is “a special moment for the game industry”, but it is not currently clear how central a role games will now play in Facebook’s future plans for the tech.
Following the acquisition, Persson said despite having previously held discussions with Oculus on a port, he had now pulled out following news of the deal as “Facebook creeps me out”.
We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out.
