Casual provider to piggyback Googleâ??s API for viral gaming

Oberon to launch OpenSocial gaming wrapper

Oberon has announced that it will be creating a developer API for Google’s OpenSocial standard, which will allow game devs to create games for social networking sites that support the new standard, including MySpace, LinkedIn, hi5, friendster and Google’s own Orkut.

Oberon’s OpenSocial wrapper will let developers turn their Flash games into viral games that can interact with social network friends lists, as well as help with the technical compatibility aspects and help developers monetise their games. Oberon will be using the wrapper itself to launch its casual games Rise of Atlantis, Scrubbles and Dream Day Wedding on Google’s new Games for Orkut service.

“We warmly welcome the OpenSocial initiative as another platform to deliver casual gaming solutions for our partners’ consumers around the globe,” said Ezra Kucharz, EVP, North American online operations & global online platforms.

“It will encourage more interactivity among casual gamers, more viral spread among this audience and result in more opportunities to monetize this activity for our partners. Together with our developer partners, we will enable people to interact more closely through casual gaming on Google’s OpenSocial Standard.”

Interested parties should submit their game ideas to socialgames@oberon-media.com.
