Oculus has acquired cross-platform C++ game networking engine RakNet.
The tech can operated across a number of network types, and features object replication, remote procedure calls, patching, voice chat and real-time SQL logging.
RakNet has been licensed by companies such as Unity, Mojang and Sony Online Entertainment.
As part of the deal, Oculus has made the tech open source as of today. You can find more details on the networking engine on the GitHub page here.
The acquisition comes shortly after Oculus bought another big gaming firm, Seattle studio and Xbox 360 controller creator Carbon Design Group.
