GDC 2014: Motion capture firm details two hi-spec cameras capable of a 240 fps capture rate

OptiTrack expands mo-cap suite with two new cameras

Motion capture equipment firm OptiTrack has unveiled a new pair of cameras for its line of motion capture and tracking hardware.

The Prime 13 and Prime 13W will publicly debut at OptiTrack’s booth (#924) at GDC in San Francisco.

Prime 13 offers a 40’ tracking range, 1.3 megapixel resolution, and a 240 fps capture rate. OptiTrack says it is ideal for medium-sized motion tracking applications that require a blend of performance and affordability.

The Prime 13W, on the other hand, is described as an ultra-wide FOV variant specifically tuned for tracking almost every inch of smaller spaces, such as CAVEs, powerwalls, HMD environments, gait labs and other compact installations.

Both models are equipped with 3D precision, a scalable ethernet interface, fully infrared illumination, synchronised reference video mode with 3D overlay and Aim Assist technology for single user setup.

“Both the Prime 13 and Prime 13W models capture the essence of the Prime Series – best in class performance with a unique and innovative nod to usability – and deliver it at half the price of competing cameras in the same category,” said OptiTrack CEO Jim Richardson.

“Our Prime 41 has been deployed on the largest and most capable performance capture stages around the world. The Prime 13 offers studios and labs the same calibre of engineering, specifically tuned for smaller setups and budgets. VR environments and other super compact spaces have a tailored offering as well, in the highly specialised Prime 13W.”

Available for $1999 and $2299 respectively, the Prime 13 and Prime 13W join the Prime 41 and Prime 17W in OptiTrack’s Prime Series of cameras. Visit OptiTack for more.
