Patch problems continue for Assassin’s Creed Unity

Assassin’s Creed firm Ubisoft continues to release patches and updates to fix its latest release, but it’s a slow and frustrating process for consumers.

The latest patch – which focuses on improving the frame rate in Assassin’s Creed Unity and revamping areas of Paris that were causing problems – weighs in at a worrying 6.7GB, according to Eurogamer.

However, Ubisoft has assured that the size of the patch is due to some of its contents replacing existing files, meaning that the overall space Unity takes up on hard drive will increase by less than 6.7GB.

Perhaps more concerning is that Xbox One owners may have to download a ridiculous 40GB. Ubisoft says this is an issue with the patch downloading process that is replacing the entire game, not just the aspects that are being patched.

Reports suggest if you have the boxed edition of Unity, uninstalling and reinstalling the game will make this much quicker.

"This is obviously not the expected behaviour, and we apologise that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download," the publisher said in a statement. "This issue isn’t causing any other problems and once the download is completed, players will have the most up-to-date and fully patched of Assassin’s Creed Unity."

The troubles of Unity have been well documented since its release last month, positioning it as the most high-profile example of a blockbuster game that appears to be broken when launched. It’s not alone: recent releases Halo, WoW: Warlords of Draenor and Driveclub have all seen their fair share of problems. 

Consumer upset over these games even prompted CD Projekt Red to further delay The Witcher III.
