PC Gamer appoints new editor and UK editor-in-chief

PC Gamer has promoted two members of its senior editorial team, Future Publishing announced today. Editor Samuel Roberts (pictured left) is now UK editor-in-chief, while former deputy editor Phil Savage (pictured right) will take on the role of editor. The publication is also recruiting for a new deputy editor.

Roberts commented: "I’m delighted to become PC Gamer’s UK editor-in-chief. In this role, I’ll oversee our entire UK operation across online, print, events and whatever else requires my input. After three-and-a-half years of editing the magazine and supporting PCGamer.com, this feels like a natural move. I look forward to working closer with our global site team.

"Phil moved to the magazine in late 2015 and has helped generate some of its best features in years. Making a magazine from scratch every month takes skill, fresh ideas and a drive to bring in new voices – Phil has all of that. He’s a guardian of PCG’s values and I can’t wait to see where he leads the magazine. He’s already vowed to use more spreadsheets than I did, which seems sensible."

Savage added: "Being in charge of PC Gamer magazine is a huge honour, and I’m looking forward to taking the credit for the tireless work of our amazing writers, freelancers and production staff. I care deeply about the tone and quality of the magazine, and will work tirelessly to spotlight new voices, and to continue to fill each issue with in-depth features, entertaining stories, and uncontroversial 94 per cent scores. I look forward to discovering whether shouldering the weight of this responsibility will make me lose my hair or just go a bit grey."
