New York City FC become first MLS club to enter eSports

New York City Football Club has announced the signing of FIFA player Christopher Holly, becoming the first MLS club to enter the world of eSports.

Holly is a top talent in the North American FIFA scene, and will continue to play in the top North American competitions. However this new home will also see him challenge NYCFC fans pre-match as well as the team’s players. He will also be producing video content for the club.

“It’s an honor to represent NYCFC. It’s a chance of a lifetime, I’m really excited and looking forward to the future,” said Holly. “I never thought this would happen so when the club contacted me, I was shocked and now I’m really looking forward to it. I think NYCFC has some great players such as Pirlo and David Villa. They’re players I used to watch when I was younger so now that they’re in the MLS and in NY, it’s great.”

NYCFC is a sister club to Manchester City, who entered the world of eSports last year with the signing of Kez Brown. This seems to be an areas the group wants to expand into with Diego Gigliani, SVP, Media and Innovation, City Football Marketing specifically mentioning Kez when revealing the signing of Holly.

“At New York City FC, we are always looking for new ways to innovate and get closer to our fans,” said Gigliani. “We are delighted to welcome Christopher Holly to the Club to represent NYCFC as the first ever eSports player in MLS. This is the next stage in our eSports strategy at City Football Group. Last year, we signed Kez Brown as Manchester City’s first eSports player and now it is great news that Christopher is joining our group.”
