Free-to-play adventure game appears on iTunes in the Philippines after two years of development

Peter Molyneux’s 22Cans stealth-launches new title The Trail

22Cans, the studio founded by Peter Molyneux behind controversial title Godus, has released a brand new game.

As spotted by Kotaku, The Trail popped up on the Filipino iTunes store roughly two years after it was first announced back in 2014.

The iPhone and iPad title is an atmospheric adventure game with a third-person perspective, in which players travel through various landscapes and “take in the view”. Crafting, trading and base-building features also appear to be included.

“You’ve never played anything like The Trail!” the game’s store page proclaims.

Anonymous reports from 22Cans have suggested that the developer’s focus shifted from Godus to working on The Trail, even with the former crowdfunded title seemingly unfinished at the time.

Godus suffered backlash at the hands of players when it was launched into Early Access back in 2013, and continued to be struck by complaints of missing features and abandoned development in the following years.

An attempt to salvage goodwill earlier this year with the premium add-on Godus Wars also ran intro trouble, leading to the strategy-flavoured expansion’s re-release under a free-to-play model.
