President of EA Sports Peter Moore has predicted that games will play a vital role in the mental and physical health of mainstream consumers in future – claiming that software will allow gamers to do things with games in their own houses that they just can’t do at the gym”.
Next-Gen.biz reports that Moore also claimed games will actually have the power to make the world a better place” – and that the industry is currently only on the cusp of truly knowing what an ‘international audience’ truly means.
Moore was speaking as as part of a debate on what role games will play in 12 years time, at this week’s MI6 marketing conference in San Francisco.
He said: Games have a key role to play in health and wellness. People will be able to do things with games in their own houses that they just can’t do at the gym. And it’s not just about making yourself stronger and healthier but also smarter and happier.
Games have the power to make people happy and to make the world a better place. And I do mean the world, because we are now opening up massive new markets like China and India that will bring billions of gamers.”
Moore’s comments are particularly apt with Nintendo’s Wii Fit set for European release next Friday – and hint that EA is keeping a close eye on the ‘healthy’ games market.
