Electronic Arts executive Peter Moore is stepping down from his job as chief competition officer at the company to follow his passion and become the CEO of Liverpool Football Club.
Moore is a Liverpool native, and has been a keen fan of Liverpool’s football club for his entire life. Moore will replace outgoing Ian Ayre, with the handover planned for June of this year. In his new role, Moore will be largely stepping away from video games and reporting to American investment outfit Fenway Sports Group, who own Liverpool Football Club.
Moore is currently leading EA’s esports initiatives. He has been with EA for a decade, joining the company in 2007 to lead their EA Spors imprint. Moore worked with Reebok for nearly two decades before he got involved with games, and this role at Electronic Arts blending his love of sports with that of video games. Before that, he worked with Sega on the Dreamcast, and then joined the team at Microsoft, helping to launch the Xbox 360.
Moore is a charismatic figure in the games industry, and was a mainstay during company presentations at both E3 and the EA Play events that followed it.
