Pitchford dismisses Aliens delay talk

Sega shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines is still on track for a release in 2011, the boss of developer Gearbox Software has assured.

Yesterday consumer blog Destructoid reported that the game had been delayed once again, with a release now pencilled in for 2012. Its source was gaming forum NeoGAF.

However, speaking to Eurogamer Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford dismissed the talk.

"I haven’t seen the story NeoGAF is referencing or what was printed, but I am certain that I haven’t discussed anything specific regarding Aliens: Colonial Marines with anyone beyond emphasising how passionate I am about the title and how committed my studio and I are to making it great.

"It looks to me like whomever made that post on NeoGAF made an interpretation that could be misleading or inaccurate.

"I am excited that there is so much interest in the game that stories like this tend to pop up literally out of nowhere and from nothing and I am looking forward to talking more about Aliens: Colonial Marines very soon so that speculation and arbitrariness can be replaced with tangible, reliable and accurate information."

Speculation about the game has been doing the rounds for some time. In 2009 the delayed title was pencilled in for a Q1 release, though this was later pushed back to 2010 and subsequently to this year.

This game is based on Aliens,” Pitchford said last year. It’s a 20th Century Fox property and Sega is the publisher. So there are some fingers in this. We haven’t really been able to be super free to be talk about everything we’ve been doing."
