PlayStation’s original series Powers has come to an end

Powers, the first original PlayStation live-action TV series, has come to and end.

Showrunner Brian Michael Bendis confirmed the cancellation on Twitter, although he has pointed out that the Marvel graphic novel of the same name will continue. Bendis also celebrated the 4m+ views that the opening episode of the second series attracted on YouTube.

Powers debuted on PSN last year. It was fronted by District 9 and Chappie star Sharlto Copley, who played a superhero turned superhero detective that had been stripped of his powers. It was PlayStation’s first foray into the world of TV-like original programming.

A second series was signed off shortly after the first was completed, with SCEA platform marketing VP John Koller saying: "We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus.”

Xbox had at one stage embarked on a similar venture in the form of Xbox Entertainment Studios. It too eventually scrapped the idea.
