Pokemon Go most used gaming app in UK – Ofcom

According to figures from the latest Communications Market report from broadcast regulator OFCOM, Pokemon Go was the most used gaming app in the UK.

The data, collected by OFCOM’s own research between September 27th and December 23rd, 2016 showed that on average, Pokemon Go was opened on average 4.82 times a day by gaming users. The report also found that gaming apps were opened 4.29 times a day, which puts Niantic’s AR success above the UK average.

The report, which also claims that the UK is now a nation of ‘binge watchers’ when it comes to television and entertainment viewing, found that people aged between 18-24 were more likely to have used a gaming app than those aged 25-34. However, the latter demographic had the highest reach when it came to Pokemon Go, which the report puts down to nostalgia for the brand within that age group.

The report also gave some interesting insight into how the panel OFCOM formed used the app. 177 people were part of the research that used Pokemon Go and in that time, opened the app 58,423 times. The highest concentration of this was around 1pm (lunch time). While YouTube again had the highest unique audience for online video services, streaming service Twitch.tv was also noted by the regulator which had 1.8 million unique viewers during the research period.
