Pokemon Sun and Moon sell 7.2m in first week

Nintendo’s latest Pokemon game has broken an American sales record.

Combined sales of Pokemon Sun and Moon reached 3.7m units in the Americas. That’s an 85 per cent increase over Pokemon X and Y and makes it the fastest selling Nintendo game ever in the region.

It was revealed yesterday that the games sold 1.5m units in their first week in Europe, including 368k in the UK. Analyst Daniel Ahmad has also stated that combined global week one sales for the titles reached 7.2m units.

With these huge sales figures, Pokmon Sun and Pokmon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season,” Nintendo of America’s senior VP of sales and marketing Doug Bowser said.

With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokmon series are sure to please any player in the family.”

Global total Pokemon game sales now stand at 280m units since the launch of Red and Blue in 1996. Pokemon X and Y eventually went on to sell 15.64m units.
