Prey dethrones Mario Kart in UK charts on its second week

Bethesda’s Prey has grabbed itself a UK No.1 at the second time of asking.

Having failed to dislodge Nintendo’s Mario Kart Deluxe 8 from the top of the charts last week, Prey has risen to the top in its second week of release. It’s the first Bethesda No.1 since Fallout 4, which itself re-enters the listings in 40th place.

The natural assumption will be that Prey has prospered now that some reviews have finally landed. Is that the case? It’s hard to say. Sales were down week-on-week, but by far less than we’ve been seeing recently for a triple-A game.

Certainly Mario Kart sales dropped by twice as much, with Nintendo’s game actually having to settle for No.3 as Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V climbs above it to second place.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands is back in the Top 10, climbing three places to No.8. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild drops to No.10, although the last time it flirted with a Top Ten exit it mounted a sales comeback, so we’ll see what happens next week.

Horizon Zero Dawn’s prolonged stay in the Top 10 continues, as well.

Here’s the UK Top 10 for the week ending May 13th:

1. Prey (Bethesda)
2. Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar)
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo)
4. FIFA 17 (EA)
5. Rocket League (505 Games)
6. LEGO Worlds (Warner Bros)
7. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Activision)
8. Ghost Recon: Wildlands (Ubisoft)
9. Horizon Zero Dawn (Sony)
10. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo)
