70m PlayStation 3 consoles have been shipped worldwide, says Sony.
And as revealed by MCV last month, 5m has been sold in the UK.
The platform hit the milestone as of November 4th, while as of November 11th over 15m units of Sony’s PlayStation Move accessory had also been sold into retail.
The update puts the console neck-and-neck with Xbox 360, which hit 70m unit sales in September. However, Xbox’s number is a sold figure, while Sony’s is the sell-in number.
Nevertheless, the PlayStation company is sure to point-out that Xbox 360 has been on the market a year longer than Sony.
Wii is still the leading platform in this generation, with around 100m consoles sold worldwide.
