PS4 imports make their way into Indian grey market

It’s been barely a week since the PlayStation 4 went on sale in North America and already import units have made their way into India’s grey market.

Sony is yet to announce a launch date or price for the PS4 in India, but you can pick one up now from stores like Sayonara in Mumbai or Electronics Palace in Delhi.

However, you’ll have to pay a hefty premium to get your hands on the console early locally. Sayonara is charging Rs 54,000 for the console, while Electronics Palace is offering the console plus a game for Rs 58,000. This is around double the price of the PS4 in the US, where the consoles have been imported from.

PS4 games are reportedly priced at anywhere from Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 in the grey market.

If you don’t want to wait around for Sony to make an announcement, there’s another option, and one that many Indian gamers have already taken. You can buy the console from Amazon’s US website, which will ship the console to India for approximately Rs 36,000 (will vary according to INR-USD exchange rate) including shipping charges and customs duties.

Note that all of these PS4 units will not carry warranty in India, so if local support is important to you, it would be best to wait a week or two, by which time Sony will have probablyannounced its PS4 launch plans for India.
