PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundshas now reached 481,291 users at its peak on Steam, creator Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene announced on Twitter (see below).
This makes PUBG the most played game on Steam apart from Valve’s own titles, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. The latter is still far ahead though with 1,291,328 peak players, while CS:GO is at No.2 with 850,485 users at its peak. However, these titles respectively releasedin 2012 and 2013, so PUBGstill has plenty of time to catch up, having only released in March this year.
PUBG – which is still an Early Access title – has now surpassed triple-A hits such as Fallout 4 (471,955 peak players) Grand Theft Auto V (360,761) and Payday 2 (247,628).
PlayerUnknown recently announced that PUBG will remain in Early Access a little longer, having previously expected to exit Early Access within six months. The developer is now aiming for a full release before the end Q4 2017,” he said.
PUBG reached 1m sales in only 16 days back in April and then hit 4m copies at the end of June. This followed the announcement of an Xbox One port of the title at E3 2017, which is due in early 2018, and though PUBG was announced as an exclusive for Microsoft’s platform, there’s still hope for a PS4 port.
