Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology top Japanese charts despite fall in 3DS sales

Atlus’ time-travelling RPG Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology for the 3DS has gone straight in at No.1 in the Japanese weekly chart, according to the latest figures from Famitsu, ending the reign of Nintendo’s ARMS after its two week run at the top.

The 3DS remake of the DS original shifted 21,429 units during its first week on shelves, while ARMS only managed another 16,618 units after a 49 per cent fall in sales week-on-week. Despite Radiant Historia’s popularity, however, the game’s release didn’t prompt an upswing in 3DS hardware sales, as New Nintendo 3DS XL sales fell by one per cent week-on-week, while Nintendo 2DS sales dropped by 18 per cent week-on-week.

In fact, it was PS4 sales that showed the biggest amount of growth last week, with basic PS4 sales increasing by 10 per cent week-on-week, while the PS4 Pro grew by five per cent week-on-week.

This is possibly related to the release of Spike Chunsoft’s Portal Knights, which debuted at No.4 last week after shifting 10,617 units.

Elsewhere in the charts, Idea Factory’s romance sim Osomatsu-san entered the charts at No.5 with 10,028 units sold, while the Switch version of Lego City Undercover sold just over 6,000 units to earn a place at No.7.

Sony’s VR shooter Farpoint, meanwhile, fell four places to No.9 last week after a 47 per cent decline in sales week-on-week, and Monster Hunter XX dropped to No.10 after sales fell by 23 per cent.
