Rainbow Six Siege could hit 20 million registered players this month

In Ubisoft’s first quarter financials call last night, the publisher revealed several key facts about the business, as suits the celebratory tone of these calls.

However, one figure was a real cause to celebrate. Ubisoft’s shooters Rainbow Six Siege will probably be hitting 20 million registered players before the end of the month, providing nothing terribly surprising happens.

It’s the continuation of a massive redemption story for the game, which launched in December 2015, marred by a December release date, coupled with Ubisoft pulling their marketing in Europe following a terrorist attack in Paris.

From there, the game has seen a steady rise in popularity, with it hard to nail down exactly how popular the game is with all of the people playing through Uplay, Steam and consoles, but Ubisoft have claimed that June was the second best month ever in terms of monthly active users, and new content for the game is going to be released next month, shortly after GamesCom.

The content update will include three new operators, due to the previous expansion being delayed for Operation Health. There will also be a new map. Rainbow Six Siege has this week added Alpha Packs, which are loot boxes by any other name, and all indications are that Ubisoft are going to continue to support their playerbase for months to come.
