Social networking site Raptr has launched a new video sharing service for games called Plays.tv after raising $14m in funding.
The service will let players share short highlights of up to 20 minutes from their game, edit and trim clips and post their videos to sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Users will also be able to follow their friends and other streamers.
The Plays.tv client beta is currently available to download for free, and will automatically start recording during gameplay.
The $14m raised by Raptr will go toward further expansion of the service. Investors in the firm include AMD, Accel Partners, DAG Ventures and Tenaya Capital. Total investment in the company now stands at $41m.
“To me, chatting with my friends about all the funny and amazing things that happened in the game we just played is often as much fun as playing the game itself,” said Raptr CEO Dennis Fong.
“Everyone experiences moments they want to remember when gaming; Plays.tv makes saving those moments as easy as taking a screenshot and provides a fun community to share them with.”
