Derby studio staff enter consultation period as part of company reorganisation

Rebellion confirms restructure

UPDATE: Story updated at 14.30 to clarify status of Derby studio

Rebellion has confirmed to Develop that it has initiated a company restructure.

Part of the move puts the staff at its Derby studio under consultation as the lease on that studio expires.

Many (including Develop) assumed this meant the ultimate closure of its Derby studio, but the studio has said this afternoon that isn’t the case.

The news comes following rumours that the team formerly known as Core Design, and bought by Rebellion in 2006, had closed.

Rebellion Derby had most recently worked on completing Bethesda’s Rogue Warrior. Its sister studios are hard at work finishing the new Alien vs Predator for Sega.

Meanwhile the firm says it is still committed to growing the staff as its Oxford HQ and expand its Runcorn base.

A statement from the firm reads: "Leading independent videogames developer Rebellion today announced that corporate restructuring will take advantage of the expanded facilities at their Oxford Head Quarters and the Runcorn studio. The Derby facility, acquired from Eidos, is coming to the end of its lease, and staff are being consulted on its future."

Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion added: "We are very excited about the expansion of our Oxford offices, the home of Aliens vs. Predator. Recruitment is ongoing both in Oxford and in Runcorn.

"However, growth is sometimes painful, never more so than in the current climate and we have had to take a long hard look at how we operate our studio network. Strategically we have decided to review the need for the Derby facilities, and consultation with staff at Derby is ongoing.”

Rebellion said more news about the restructuring will be released in the coming weeks.
