Record number of UK game companies exhibiting at GDC

A record number of UK game business are exhibiting on expo floor at GDC 2014, which includes the largest ever stand from the UK trade body.

Over 40 UK games business are at the conference in San Francisco to meet business contacts and demo their games on UKIE’s stand.

UKIE said it has saved UK game businesses attending GDC this year over £50,000 by securing grants from the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), which backs the trade body’s American excursion.

This year’s UK industry stand includes a UKTI-hosted hospitality area for exhibitors and guests and one-to-one sessions for developers, publishers and platform holders. There’s also a UK industry app featuring a list of all UK businesses present on the stand.

“We are delighted to be representing the UK with more than 40 companies on the expo floor this year, flying the flag for our Great British talent,” said UKIE CEO Jo Twist.

“GDC is such an important event in developers’ calendars and we have saved UK devs more than £50,000 in exhibiting costs. Key trade shows like GDC give the sector a crucial platform to do business, to attract investment, interest and generate business for UK companies. With the tax production credits hopefully on the horizon, there has never been a better time to do business in the UK.”

British consul general Priya Guha in San Francisco added: “The UK industry’s largest ever stand at the Game Developers Conference expo reflects the growing size and importance of Britain’s digital entertainment industry. It is innovative and world-leading and shows the UK’s predominance in gaming.”

The UK stand can be found in Moscone South Hall #814 on the expo floor.
