The Last Story

The Last Story is an action RPG crafted by Final Fantasy creator Hionobu Sakaguchi.

The Japanese development stalwart left Square Enix to start up his own studio Mistwalker several years ago, which built the Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey RPGs on Xbox 360. That’s enough in itself to suggest The Last Story will be a high quality release, which features its own unique elements.

Players take control of swordfighter Zael and his band of mercenaries who embark on a quest to become a noble knight. Like the Final Fantasy games, the battles are all about strategy and figuring out each enemy’s weaknesses, with detailed character customisation options. It even has a six-player online mode.

The Last Story follows last year’s well-received Wii RPG Xenoblade Chronicles. They form two of three upcoming Japanese RPGs for Wii. The third game, the Ganbarion-developed Pandora’s Tower, is due later this year.

“Following the success of Xenoblade and the high anticipation of Pandora's Tower, The Last Story is sure to keep JRPG fans wanting more,” Nintendo UK product manager Vanisha Kavia tells MCV.

Nintendo says previews and reviews for the game will be appearing in all major games publications, while online takeovers and banners will run on video game websites.

Sakaguchi will be attending the Midlands MCM Expo on February 18th where he will be demonstrating The Last Story to fans. He will also take part in a question and answer session at BAFTA two days earlier.

The Last Story is also available as a Limited Edition complete with a copy of the game, SteelBook cover, CD soundtrack and art book.
