Reunited closes down after “running out of money”

eSports organisation Reunited has closed its doors, despite having one of the best Overwatch teams in the world.

The organisation announced today that it would be ceasing operations, with all teams and players being let go and free to find other homes.

In a blog post founders Frederik Kragh Christensen and Christian Jantzen explained that the move was because the organisation could not financially continue to operate.

“There is a range of reasons as to why this is happening now,” said the pair in the blog. “The main reason, however, is the timing of the Overwatch League conflicting with our internal financial model, as we are running out of money. Earlier this fall, the news surfaced that we were in talks with several large sports entities, however, none of these were successful due to the uncertainty surrounding the acquisition of league spots.”

With no spots being guaranteed for the Overwatch League, and no one really knowing how much it will shake things up, large organisations are wary of investing in independent organisations. After all investing in a team that doesn’t make it to the league would be disastrous.

The former Reunited Overwatch roster has confirmed that they will be sticking together and are currently looking for a new home. They plan to try and play in the Overwatch League.
