Overwatch organisation Reunited is apparently in talks with major sports clubs from the NBA, Premier League, and Bundesliga about a potential sale.
A report from The eSports Observer states that Reunited has been approached by or is in talks with multiple clubs from top leagues across the globe regarding a potential sale of the organisation and its highly successful Overwatch team.
The talks have apparently started since Blizzard announced the Overwatch League, which will see teams bid to become the sole organisation for a certain city that will be invited to the league. At Blizzcon multiple sports team owners were seen and rumours have suggested that many major sports brands are interested in entering the league. With places limited and the league supposedly being franchised, meaning no relegation, teams are now looking for the best way in.
“As one of the best overwatch teams in the world, it is absolutely crucial for us to make sure that we make it to the league,” said Reunited manager Frederik Kragh Christensen when speaking to The eSports Observer. “So yes, we are in talks with clubs from NBA, Premier League, and Bundesliga, as we cannot do this by ourselves. Reunited is likely going to be acquired prior to the upcoming Overwatch league. And certainly, other esports teams will look to partner up with other sports teams moving towards the league. We didn’t finalize a deal yet and are still open to offers.”
Reunited has been one of the big European teams during the early life of Overwatch. They have had decent success in a few tournaments but have never done too well at the major events. What they have done well at is sustaining themselves as an independent organisation, which they founded after leaving Fnatic. While selling up to a team with the capital to get into the league sounds like a good idea it does mean that a fledgling organisation will not get the chance to become the next TSM or Dignitas.
